Pastor’s Friend Update/ Spring 2011

15 Jun

Dear Friends,

Did you know that 80% of pastors feel unqualified or discouraged in their ministry? Did you know that 50% of pastors will leave the ministry within the first 5 years? And the most alarming statistic of them all: 50% of pastors’ marriages will end in divorce?

Recent statistics now say that over 1700 pastors are leaving the ministry every month and ministry is now one of the top hazardous professions! What is going on with our ministers and why is their such a high drop out rate?

Most people think ministers have an easy job and live a life of ease. But nothing could be farther from the truth! Here’s some cold hard facts. According to the Barna Research Group and Focus on the Family , our ministers are struggling more than ever , attempting to balance personal and family needs, while working feverishly to meet the ever demanding needs of their multi-generational congregations. There are hospital visits , counseling appointments , board meetings , church functions , disgruntled members , financial concerns , staff challenges and repairs to be made on the church grounds, ( not to mention a city to reach for Christ!)

All these things can pile up on a pastors’ shoulders. Unfortunately , most pastors don’t even realize that they are stressed out ! Most are in dire need of some good personal coaching and counseling. That’s where Pastor’s Friend comes in!

For the past 5 1/2 months , Janet and I have given ourselves completely to the ministry of encouraging and equipping pastors and church planters. This ministry has been a joy to us and we absolutely LOVE what we do!

It’s people like you that enable us to minister to the ministers! We are presently working with over 50 pastors and trusting God will continue to expand our influence here in North Carolina , throughout the U.S. and around the globe. ( We’ve been invited to train church planters this Fall in Johannesburg , South Africa and Kenya ).

Thank you for your support for Pastor’s Friend! In the coming days I would like to speak with you personally about the upcoming opportunities we’ve received thus far. We are fully responsible for raising our ministry support and trusting God to move on the hearts of people like you for that support.

Blessings to all ,

Jim and Janet Kelly
